Welcome to the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter ASPE Website

President's Report

President –March 2010

Is the sun going to come out and stay? It has been an interesting winter filled with snow, rain, and too many sunless days. It has not been your typical Texas winter this year, but for all of you reading this newsletter article, you have survived. We have made it to another day. I want to thank everyone who came out to our February technical meetings. The meetings were again well attended and a great show of support from ALL of you.  This is an interesting time of year. For DFW ASPE, we have a full calendar of events and opportunity for our designers, engineers, contractors, code officials, and affiliates to get together and have a little fun while “blowing” off some steam. You may not read this until after our clay shoot, but I can tell you it is a good stress reliever to clay shoot. It is also a great time to be around some friends. Friday March 12 we will be joining the local ASHRAE chapter to have a good. I hope to see many ASPE members there. Let me update you on some of our other Activities and Programs now as well.

DFW ASPE Ambassador Program
We are currently off and running with our program. We have had our initial meetings with our Satellite Chapters. It was great to get out and meet some of them in person. I didn’t make it to all of the meetings. In fact, I want to thank Don Taylor for running our Oklahoma City meeting, Kelvin Kennedy for running our Tulsa meeting, Jim Vertz and James Walls for running our Lubbock meeting and Dennis Wilson and James Walls for running our Little Rock meeting. I was only fortunate enough to attend the Little Rock meeting this go around, but I look forward to attending more of the satellite chapter meetings in the future. We currently have 4 satellite areas where we are working to secure a solid base of support and participation. The areas are:

·     Oklahoma City Chapter – Ambassadors are:

Thank you to everyone that is assisting us in the endeavor. We have had great support from several members and affiliates in all of the regions and we thank you for your above and beyond effort.

DFW ASPE Silver Sponsorship Package
The DFW ASPE board has prepared and excellent sponsorship packages for 2010. Many people don’t realize how much $$ savings are hidden in these packages. Affiliates are looking for ways to entertain their customers at a lower cost. These packages are designed to give our Affiliates that opportunity. However, these packages are not just for our Affiliates. We recognize that all firms are struggling to produce acceptable returns on projects and that they want to lower their discretionary spending. We recognize this and we want to help. Our Silver Sponsor package is unbelievable.  We are offering 3 ASPE memberships and attendance for 2 ASPE members into one of our DFW ASPE technical classes for only $600. This is a $1,130 package that we are offering to our friends for only $600. We want to give back to our membership and show value to the many manufacturers, design firms, and development firms that make us successful. We want you to be successful as well in your endeavors. It is time to put up and joint the DFW ASPE Chapter. If you are not a member it is time to join. If you are a member who let their membership lapse, it is time to renew or rejoin. If you are someone who is currently out of work, you need to get in touch with me and allow ASPE to help you maintain your membership during this tough economic time. 2010 is a time for doing, or as my pastor says, it is “Time to Elevate Your Life”.

CPD Exam April 16th or 17th, 2010.
Register for CPD closes March 19, 2010. So register online now! If you are planning on taking the CPD exam and you are currently an Associate member, you should also be considering updating your membership status to “FULL”. The Actual Exam for 2010 will take place April 16th or 17th. It is a great feather in your cap and an increasingly recognized certification to have your CPD. Your DFW ASPE Chapters has set aside $5000 in reimbursement funds for all of our members who take and pass the exam. Your examination fee will be reimbursed by our chapter as a way of helping you advance your career. Why not take advantage of it?

2010 Directory of Membership
We will be publishing a membership directory that will include all of our members and all manufacturers and rep agencies that have members part of the DFW ASPE chapter. This undertaking is growing in size and as such we will not be distributing until June 2010. This gives us time to make certain that only manufacturers and reps that are part of our ASPE organization are allowed in the book. It also gives us time for all of you to update your contact information with ASPE. You can do this through www.aspe.org.

April 17, 2010 is Casino Night!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dennis Wilson and team are putting together another excellent Casino Night! This is a great social event where you can bring out the wife, girlfriend, husband, or boyfriend and have a great time! We will again have thousands of $ worth of prizes that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. This year, there will also be a Poker Tournament as part of the event.

May 7, 2010 Spring Golf Outing – Mark Your Calendar
Our Spring golf outing is scheduled for May 7, 2010 at Prairie Lakes Golf Course in Grand Prairie, TX. So get your teams out together and get ready to have some fun.

If you have not gone out to the ASPE national website (www.aspe.org) then you are missing out. Check the National Website and update your contact information whenever necessary.

We want to continue to thank our existing and look for additional volunteers to help make our chapter stronger. If you are interested in volunteering to help the chapter, please contact me at bryan.hutton@lubrizol.com.
